adenine phosphoribosyltransferase
Overview
Apt (Adenine Phosphoribosyltransferase) Mutation in Laboratory-Selected Vancomycin-Intermediate Staphylococcus aureus.
The study identifies a mutation in the apt gene, which encodes adenine phosphoribosyltransferase, as contributing to reduced vancomycin susceptibility in laboratory-selected vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strains. The mutation reduces the accumulation of adenine and 2-fluoroadenine, leading to increased resistance to vancomycin.
Staphylococcus aureus mutants resistant to the feed-additive monensin show increased virulence and altered purine metabolism.
