Wildlife as Sentinels of Antimicrobial Resistance in Germany?
The study identified various AMR genes, including bla CTX-M-1, bla CTX-M-15, bla CTX-M-14-like, bla CMY-2-like, and bla TEM-1, in Escherichia coli isolates from wild boars, roe deer, and wild ducks and geese in Germany. These genes conferred resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics such as cefotaxime, ceftazidime, and ampicillin.

The study identified several ESBL/AmpC genes, including bla CTX-M-1, bla CTX-M-15, bla CTX-M-14-like, bla CTX-M-65, and bla CMY-2-like, in ESBL/AmpC-producing E. coli isolates from wild boar. These genes were associated with environmental factors such as cattle density and precipitation.
