Overview
Evolution of the Quorum network and the mobilome (plasmids and bacteriophages) in clinical strains of Acinetobacter baumannii during a decade.
The study identified the presence of a plasmid harbouring blaOXA24/40 ß-lactamase and abKA/abkB genes in Acinetobacter baumannii strains, along with two temperate bacteriophages, Ab105-1ϕ and Ab105-2ϕ, which contain important viral defence proteins. Additionally, a new QQ enzyme, AidA, was characterised.
Relationship between Tolerance and Persistence Mechanisms in Acinetobacter baumannii Strains with AbkAB Toxin-Antitoxin System.
The study identified the blaOXA24/40 beta-lactamase gene as a key factor in carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii ST-2 clinical isolates, along with the AbkAB toxin-antitoxin system contributing to tolerance and persistence mechanisms under chlorhexidine and imipenem pressure.
