Detection by metagenomic functional analysis and improvement by experimental evolution of β-lactams resistance genes present in oil contaminated soils.

The study identified several β-lactamase genes and efflux pumps in oil-contaminated soils that confer resistance to cephalosporins and carbapenems. Experimental evolution led to increased resistance levels through mutations upstream of the β-lactamase genes.
